Kleihauer Test

A blood test used to measure the amount of fetal haemoglobin transferred from a fetus to the mother's bloodstream. It is performed on Rh-negative mothers to determine the dose of Anti-D immunoglobulin to inhibit formation of Rh antibodies in the mother and prevent Rh disease in future Rh-positive children. It is performed on an anticoagulated maternal blood sample within 2 hours of birth.
